Gambling addicts are very vulnerable. Therefore, drug dealers all across the globe have found it easy to recruit gambling addicts as drug traffickers. There has been an estimated amount of 51% of people arrested for the growth of narcotic plants in the last five years. One-fifth of these convicted people has gambling problems. This is according to a study conducted by the Sentencing Advisory Council.
A medical point of view of gambling addiction refers to the addiction as being similar to many other impulsive control disorders. This means that the gambler is incapable of controlling or stopping themselves whether they aware of the consequences or not. Examples of other impulsive control disorders are pyromania, which is setting fires for amusement and kleptomania, which is compulsive stealing.
When it comes to gambling addiction, there are three different forms. These include the compulsive gambler, the binge gambler and the problem gambler.
The compulsive gambler is the most recognisable and dangerous form of addiction. Compulsive gamblers have no control over their gambling and tend to spend large sums of money gambling at a casino. These gambling addicts do not care if they need the money for rent, food or their car, they use it anyway.
The binge gambler and the compulsive gambler have some similarities. Like the compulsive gambler, the binge gambler also lacks control over their gambling and will wager their money regardless of what they require it for. The difference between the two is that is that binge gamblers will do this once in a while, while the compulsive gambler will do it as often as possible.
The least severe of the gambling addicts is the problem gambler. These players are not completely addicted to gambling. However, problems still arise from their gambling. The problem gambler most often chases after their losses and hide their gambling from their family and friends by lying.
Organisers of commercial-scale marijuana cultivation search for people with gambling debts and offer to pay their debts in exchange for crop sitting. This phenomenon is spreading rapidly and, people need to be made aware. The real issue is that police are catching low-level sitters, with the bigger fish still being unable to be caught. Players caught with crop sittings are subject to two years in prison and three years for the leaders. Gambling addicts are also caught with methamphetamine and ecstasy, which are the most common drugs trafficked in commercial quantities.
