The new year brings in a new National Rugby League. With the competition starting in early March, and all fixtures confirmed, it has not taken long for sportsbooks to start coming out with a few odds. Sixteen teams look set to take part in this year’s tournament, and we have decided to highlight three teams and their respective odds of walking away tournament winners.
New Zealand Warriors: 49/100
As the name suggests, the New Zealand Warriors are actually not based in Australia. In fact, they are the only team outside of Australia to compete in this year’s NRL. This makes them the odd team out, and possibly one to watch this year. Online gambling sites across Australia have installed the New Zealand Warriors as a long shot of winning with 49/100 odds. Our neighbours across the way are great sportsmen, but bookies see them struggling to make the cut in Australia’s favourite sporting event. Offer them moral support and maybe pick up a long shot of winning!
Melbourne Storm: 3/50
The reigning 2017 champions are certainly one of the firm favourites of winning the NRL again this season and making it back to back wins. With three previous titles, they are one of the most successful teams in the league. The sportsbooks odds reflect this by giving them strong odds of 3/50.
North Queensland Cowboys: 1/20
The bookies favourite this year are the North Queensland Cowboys. Despite losing to Melbourne Storm in last year’s final, they have been installed as the team with the highest odds of winning in 2018. The reason for this seems to be down to two hugely impactful players returning from injury. The Cowboys co-captains both suffered an injury before the final last season, with many believing this was the reason they lost to Melbourne Storm. Now with both players back and fully fit, bookies, feel they will manage to go all the way in 2018.
From long shot to sure bet: 2018 National Rugby League
Whether you feel like placing a long shot on the New Zealand Warriors, or a sure bet on the Cowboys, it seems online sportsbooks have already set out some great bets. 2018 looks set to be another great year of Rugby League, so be sure to place your bets nice and early.
