A hotel with 61 floors might be coming to New South Wale’s (NSW) casino district soon. Star Entertainment has already sent its petition to the government for approval to start constructing the building.
Star Entertainment, together with its partner from Hong Kong, the Chow Tai Fook Group, have reported to the media that the AUD$360.6 million project will have 200 private apartments and 220 six-star hotel rooms. The building will also have two gyms, a rooftop terrace, a public restaurant and a spa and wellness centre. The tower will be adjacent to the casino complex that is also home to the recently opened Sydney International Convention Center and the Sydney Fish Market.
The Star Sydney currently stands as the second largest land-based casino in Australia and is a favourite spot for Asian high rollers. Earlier this year, the casino announced that they have a new partner from Hong Kong. Furthermore, they stated that the partnership would assist to leverage the customer base, expertise and network for both companies so as to attract more VIP growth.
The Star’s CEO – Matt Bekier, reported to the media that estimations suggest that about 8.3 million international visitations per year will increase to 15 million within the next decade. He further says that to meet such a demand, Australia needs essential tourism infrastructure. According to Matt Bekier, Sydney does not have enough high-end hotels to cater to such a wave of international tourists.
Star Entertainment is currently working on a few other projects in Australia like the Brisbane Casino Resort. The resort is expected to be up and running by 2020, and it’s likely that the Star will have a 50% stake of the operations. So far, the government hasn’t responded to the 61-story hotel petition they submitted, but at Pokies.com, we will do our best to keep you posted on this matter.
