The Star Entertainment Group is currently working on adding The Ritz-Calton to their Sydney casino to make it an integrated resort. They will be renovating the casino and have decided to integrate a hotel with the casino. The Star will be building The Ritz-Carlton Hotel and will be working with Chow Tai Fook Group based in Hong Kong. The project is estimated to cost more than AU$500 million.
Chow Tai Fook has invested AU$490 million in the Australian gaming operator to have stakes of 4.99%.
The Ritz-Carlton will be a six-star 61 storey hotel that will have 220 rooms. Other facilities include 200 apartments, a public restaurant, two gyms, a spa and wellness centre. It will also feature a pool area that will have views of the harbour.
Though The Star is planning to expand and renovate the casino, there are no plans to develop the gaming area. The Australian gaming operator hired FJMT to design the hotel. Once complete The Ritz-Carlton will compete with Crown Resort’s Barangaroo resort which is due to open in 2020.
When visitors come to the hotel, they will not be staying far from the Darling Harbour, Sydney Convention Centre, the Bays Precinct and the Sydney Fish Market.
The Star will be refurbishing other things at the property that includes the arrival area, the VIP facilities, the Astral Tower and Residences.
According to Matt Bekier, The Star Entertainment Chief Executive, the number of international visitors in Australia is around 8.3 million per year. He also went on to say that it will increase to 15 million a year. There is a lack of luxury hotels in Sydney which means that the city won’t be able to cater to the influx of visitors.
The Star Entertainment Group is also part of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane resort plan. The resort is scheduled to open in 2022 and will cost AU$2.4 billion.
