POKER CHAMPION JAKE CODY BETS WINNINGS ON ROULETTE

For many of us, winning a major UK Poker Championship with prize money of $60,000 is a dream come true. While not on the level of a national lottery, the prize money would certainly go a long way to making a difference. For some people, like poker player Jake Cody, winning poker tournaments just isn’t enough excitement. Jake recently won the UK Poker high roller event, hosted at England’s Dusk Till Dawn Casino.

The winning amount is not that remarkable when you consider his career earnings to date are a staggering $4.5 million, making him Britain’s tenth most successful poker player of all time. What Jake did, however, after winning the tournament got everyone talking!

ALL OR NOTHING ON BLACK

Jake took his prize money, and went straight to the casino’s roulette tables with one goal in mind; place the whole lot on black! This was a true double or nothing situation, risking hours and hours’ worth of hard work in winning in the first place.

The casino owner, Ron Yong, happened to be a long-time friend of Jake’s and agreed to the wager taking place. Ron saw this as a great publicity stunt, which could get people talking about the casino. Ron even agreed to spin the wheel himself, which he duly did. Video footage of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows a very nervous but smiling Jake waiting for the ball to stop.

When the ball stopped rolling, everyone could breathe again, as it landed on black. Jake had effectively doubled his winnings in the space of five minutes, on a 50-50 wager.

POKER VIDEO GOES VIRAL

Afterwards Jake tweeted a video of the moment with the caption: “No Gamble, No Future!”. The video was quickly viewed by thousands, with the views continuing to go up. Mainstream media have since jumped on this story, adding to the publicity Ron was hoping for.

Curiously enough, Cody originally agreed to a four-way chop when the final got down to four players. This is considered a sensible move as it lowers the chance of big swings and makes the final more controlled. This measure of control and restraint is odd from someone who is clearly capable of betting all their winnings and a high-variance spin of roulette!
